Axel Thesleff is the Finnish electronic music producer who created the timeless genre-fluid single ‘Bad Karma’ a decade ago. This year, Axel celebrates a decade of success, and over 1 billion streams with the unveiling of his ‘Bad Karma’ VIP remake released on 16 August, and the forthcoming Bad Karma Remix Album. Axel pioneered the World Bass genre, and in 2014 ‘Bad Karma’ shifted the trajectory of his career forever. The single was featured on the YouTube channel Trap Nation and garnered over 515 million streams on the channel.
Throughout his career, Axel Thesleff has received support from the likes of Billboard, YourEDM, Dancing Astronaut, CLASH Magazine, EDM.com, EARMILK, and The Needle Drop to name a few. He draws inspiration from the likes of Flume, RL Grimes, Baauer, Hucci, Burial and Gold Panda.
The music video for ‘Bad Karma’ reflects the bitter message of its Punjabi lyrics – “Don’t be proud of your money, as it will never satisfy you” – boasts almost 130 million views on Axel’s YouTube channel and another 113 million streams on Spotify, with total streams exceeding one billion across all platforms.
Axel’s VIP is the first single released from the remix album. The VIP remake adds an energetic and fresh twist to the original, and reflects on how this track has changed Axel’s life, as well as all the memories that have been created because of it.
He has curated a diverse lineup of artists from three continents for the remix album, featuring remixes by: MEMBA (US), ZwiReK (PL), Daktyl (US), SickFlip (IN), Gurbax (IN), Tech Panda & Kenzani (IN), Eyezic (US), ATYYA (CA) and Chet Porter (US).
