I'MMORTAL - Uncanny Vally still

I’MMORTAL’s ‘Uncanny Valley’ Music Video Is a Mind-Bending Sci-Fi Must-See!

I’MMORTAL’s latest music video for ‘Uncanny Valley’ dropped on April 16, 2025, premiered by the cutting-edge KALTBLUT Magazine, with the track itself earning nods from tastemaker NOTION. This New York and London-based avant-pop visionary, born in California, weaves her multifaceted talents as a producer, vocalist, visual artist, and creative director into a mesmerizing package. Her journey began with the 2023 tech-house banger ‘Versace Spaceship’, followed by hits like ‘Supervillain’ and ‘KILLED U IN A DREAM’, racking up over 250,000 Spotify streams. Remixes by Droid Bishop and biskuwi have lit up platforms like NewRetroWave and DJ Mag Spain, while outlets like CLASH Magazine, EARMILK, and Wonderland Magazine sing her praises. Raised on orchestral violin and high school musicals, I’MMORTAL’s sound fuses gritty EDM basslines with influences from Sevdaliza, Björk, and SOPHIE, crafting a sonic spell for fans of Billie Eilish or Pastel Ghost. Her synesthetic artistry births campy, thematic visuals exploring AAPI identity, femininity, and the clash of natural versus artificial worlds.

The music video for I’MMORTAL’s ‘Uncanny Valley’,  directed by Victoria Gong, channels a hauntingly clinical aesthetic in scenes where I’MMORTAL, draped in pearlescent white, is tended to by nurses checking her pulse in a sterile, almost dystopian setting. These moments evoke a sense of vulnerability and dehumanization, as if she’s a specimen under scrutiny, her robotic essence probed in a cold, medical environment. The stark lighting and methodical movements of the nurses amplify this eerie detachment, blurring the line between patient and machine, much like the unsettling introspection of a figure caught in a system beyond their control. This imagery feels like a nod to the surreal, high-concept narratives of 2010s pop, where artists often played with themes of identity and surveillance in hyper-stylized settings.

The video’s overall vibe harks back to the so-called “Illuminati pop music videos” of the 2010s, a time when glossy, conspiracy-fueled aesthetics ruled the scene. Think of the cryptic symbolism in Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ or the occult-tinged visuals of Beyoncé’s ‘Run the World (Girls)’, where bold, enigmatic imagery—flashing lights, mirrored identities, and futuristic motifs—sparked endless fan theories about hidden meanings.

I’MMORTAL shared: “Having two identical humanoid A.I. robots undergo a Turing test, and then fight to the death in a choreographed dance-fight scene is definitely my idea of a cutting edge pop video! I really love incorporating movement into my videos, so I was super excited when Victoria came up with the brilliant idea of having a choreographed fight scene that is also an abstract dance piece. Dove Che, our movement director, is such a genius because he knew exactly how to execute Victoria’s vision of balancing dance and fight. I had the most amazing body double, KiKi Song, who is such a talented and versatile dancer. Together, the four of us rehearsed the movement for a couple of months, I think it really paid off in the end.”
