André 3000 is blowing haters away with new flute-forward ambient album

This month, André 3000, beloved rapper and co-founder of OutKast, isn’t rapping. He’s blowing. Minds and expectations, with his new wood-wind ambient jazz affair, ‘New Blue Sun’. It’s out now via EPIC Records. Listen to the featured track, ‘I Swear, I Really Wanted to Make a Rap Album But This Is Literally the Way the Wind Blew Me This Time’ and the rest of the new album, here:

Clocking in at almost 90 minutes of delicately dancing flutes, ambient keys, and discordant gongs, this is not the album we wanted, it’s the one we never knew we needed. Featuring a huge array of fantabulous contributions from other auteurs, Nate Mercereau, Surya Botofasina, Deantoni Parks, Diego Gaeta, Matthewdavid, V.C.R., Diego Gaeta, Jesse Peterson, and Mia Doi Todd.

Speaking to GQ, the illustrious and no doubt colorful musician had this to say about why he neglected to gift us with new bars; “I’ve worked with some of the newest, freshest, youngest, and old-school producers. I get beats all the time. Even now people think, Oh, man, he’s just sitting on raps, or he’s just holding these raps hostage. I ain’t got no raps like that.”
