Inspired by the eerie phenomenon of the same name, ‘Uncanny Valley’ is a sonic exploration of blurred realities, emerging ominous sound effects, glitchy autotune, and a pulsating bassline. The track’s lyrics depict a mysterious entity teetering between human and machine, leaving listeners to interpret whether an AI is confronting a sociopathic human, or vice versa. A thumping four-on-the-floor beat propels the track into a hypnotic club-ready moment before it dissolves into an unsettling digital haze.
“I wanted the whole song to reflect the unease one feels when looking at something almost human, but not quite,” I’MMORTAL explains. ‘I also thought it was a fitting metaphor for people with such questionable morals that they begin to feel non-human.” With ‘Uncanny Valley’, she continues to establish herself as a visionary force in electronic music, delivering a release that is as thought-provoking as it is danceable.
